Wow. We use the word “wow” a lot, and it has no real meaning. In fact, we can’t even define the word. We only use it when we’re not sure what we’re talking about. It’s just something we say and feel good about. So, I like to think that “wow” has a very specific meaning. It’s when we are simply impressed by a situation or person.
Wow is when you are impressed by the fact that there is an actual person in the room and not just a bunch of pixels. Thats the only time I use that word in my post. That is when I am impressed by the fact that they have a brain in their body. Thats when I use the word wow.
I think that even though this word is so common, it always felt a bit of a stretch to use. Since wow is just a word that I feel good about and that I use when I’m not sure what we are talking about, I would think it would be safe to say that using it wasn’t going to make us feel any better.
Wow is an interesting word because it is so uncommon that it can feel like you are making a generalization, a statement that is difficult to dispute. It means a lot of things to different people, and it does mean different things to different people. So you could say, “Wow, my dad is crazy.” But you can also say, “Wow, my dad is not crazy” and it wouldn’t be as obvious.
Okay, so to say that Wow is a bit of a stretch. To me, it means the opposite. It is an adjective that describes something that is a bit of a stretch, and not all too common. We use it all the time, to describe an extremely rare event or a person, but we wouldn’t call a dog that.
Wow is a bit of a stretch, but that doesnt mean that it is a bad word. There are plenty of other words that can describe your dad that you can use to refer to him that are far more common. It is all about context.
The word is often used to refer to something that is unusual but not in-real-life-type weird. It is not usually used to describe something as weird as a crazy person, however. I wouldn’t use wow as a way to describe a dog, for example. In fact, the only time I would ever use the word to describe a dog is when it was used to describe a particular breed of dog.
