It is so nice to see so many news channels focused on the current events. It is such a relief to know that we are not the only ones living in this world and that we have a choice as to which news we will receive.
The Spanish-language La Voz de Arte (The Artist Voice) website has a pretty interesting article this week talking about a bunch of Spanish artists and their work. The article talks about the artists’ reactions to the recent announcement Google has made that it has been reviewing artwork that is deemed by Google to be “inappropriate” for its search results.
At the beginning of La Voz de Arte, the artist says she was very shocked by Google’s decision, and then goes on to say “I don’t understand why I should have to comply with this, because I’ve done a lot of things that are bad in my life that I don’t think Google will find objectionable if it is not my work.
In one of the comments, a user who doesn’t use Facebook says that Google’s reviews of her artwork is “a great reason to not use Facebook”, and he’s not the only one who’s upset. The artist, who has a Facebook account, says that she doesn’t think that her work should be in Google’s results, and that she wouldn’t mind if it was, but she’s glad that Google has made a decision to review her work.
It is a common misconception that when Google decides to review her work, they will not do it for one reason or another. But the fact is that it’s very easy to use because of the number of reviews, so Google reviews her work to make sure that her work doesn’t fall into any of the categories listed.
The issue is that Google is very cautious with what it does because it is going to make sure that the work is not harmful to people. If anything its going to be used for good. Google is trying to give the best possible results for its users, so anything that is negative on Google is going to be more than likely to fall into the “harmful” category.
In fact, this comes from the fact that Google has a very strict rating system for its own products. If Google wants something to rank well in the search results, then it has to get many positive reviews from people who are willing to believe that the product is good. Since the majority of the reviews for las cruces sun are written by people who don’t like it, Google is going to have to be cautious.
I get it. But why should the vast majority of Google users care if a product is good? It’s not like we’re going to be buying a new car. We’re not going to be watching a movie on Netflix. There’s a lot of cool stuff we could be doing with our time that doesn’t involve searching for the latest hot movie.
It seems to me that Google needs to care a little more about what they are showing us. The majority of people who have been searching for “las cruces sun” probably don’t have a problem with the product, but if a significant portion of Google users who are searching for the same thing are not finding it then they might be a little uninterested in the product.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with wanting to watch a movie you like. I think there should be a little more oversight than just showing us what is on the Netflix list, especially if it is something we might not have an interest in. Maybe we should see some of the movies on YouTube or something.
