I love the idea of recessed lighting in my home. I have been thinking about it now for long enough to think about the light that I see and the way it looks in the light’s reflection. This is pretty cool, but it can get a little overwhelming when it’s just a wall of light that is just reflecting off the ground. I’m not sure why, but perhaps it’s because you can’t stand the light.
That is why you have to put the ceiling lights up. If you have a light well that is well above the ceiling, you can stand there and see any of the light that it is reflected. That is what we did. The light was at least 15 feet away from the wall. The light was reflected and looked good. If you were standing in front of the light, you would have seen the reflections of the light in the light well as well.

The new room has no windows, so the light was reflected into a dark hallway. This was not a bad thing, but it is a little annoying. What is irritating is that if you walked closer to the light, you would have seen the reflection of the light in the hallway. This is because when looking at the reflection, you are looking at the ceiling and not the light.
I am an electrical engineer, not a designer. I don’t believe in the magic of lighting. I don’t want you to believe that the light in hallways are magical, like light waves dancing off a rainbow, so to speak. I don’t believe that the light is a reflection of the ceiling, I believe that the light is a reflection of the walls. The lighting in the hallway was not a reflection of the light.
