I know what you’re thinking: what kind of independent health care provider can they be? Well, they’re actually a subsidiary of a larger conglomerate. So what happens when one of these health care groups merges with one of the other large group? They get merged into a larger entity which is then merged into a larger conglomerate. But that’s why they’re independent: they don’t have to be.
The problem is that the independent health care providers aren’t very independent. They tend to get incorporated into their respective group and are then given the same board of directors and corporate officers. So when the corporate giant merges with the independent health care provider, the independent health care provider is left with no say over corporate decisions. Which is why there are a lot of independent health care providers who want to merge with their own group.
